  • When you try to restore from a full backup of a Windows Vista computer, you may get the error below:

"Windows was not able to find any backup sets on [DRIVE] for the following reason:
The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)
Verify that this location is valid and contains backups or try a different location
    ."

  • How to fix?

This problem occurs when the Windows Vista restore wizard cannot access the backup files because of denied access or because of missing or corrupted files.

To resolve this pc error, following steps:

    1. Locate the backup folder on the external drive on computer B. The name of the backup folder resembles the computer name of computer A.

    2. Make sure that the SYSTEM account has read permissions for all the backup folder's subfolders, following steps:

       > Right-click the backup folder, and then click Properties.

       > Click the Security tab.

       > Check to determine whether the SYSTEM account has read permissions. If the SYSTEM account does have read permissions, click Cancel two times, and then go to step 3. If the SYSTEM account does not have read permissions, go to step 2d.

       > Click Edit, click Add to add the SYSTEM account, and then click OK.

       > Select the SYSTEM account, make sure that the Read check box is selected, and then click OK.

    3. Make sure that the backup folder has the following file structure:
    DRIVE:\MACHINE\BackupSet yyyy-mm-dd tttttt
    \Catalogs
    GlobalCatalog.wbcat
    \Backup Files yyyy-mm-dd tttttt
    Backup Files N.zip

    4. If you find an orphaned or incomplete backup, move that folder out of the BackupSet yyyy-mm-dd tttttt folder.

    5. Restart the Windows Vista restore wizard. To do this, click Start, click Control Panel, click Backup and Restore Center, and then click Restore files.
