This help guide page describes how
to troubleshoot Windows Backup and Restore problems that you may experience when a reparse point folder or its subfolder
is added to a user library in
Windows 7.
How to fix?
If you experience a problem when you run
the Windows Backup or File Restore wizard in Windows 7, use one of the
following workarounds, as appropriate for your situation.
- Backup issues
Issue 1: Error code 0x80070001
If the reparse point points to a FAT formatted volume, you
receive error code 0x80070001 (Invalid Function).
To work around this problem, remove this reparse point from the
library, and then run the backup wizard again.
Issue 2:
Error code 0x81000037
If the reparse point points to a location that contains any
compressed file format (multimedia files, .zip files, and so
on), you receive an error message that resembles the following:
0x81000037: Windows
Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one
of the volumes being backed up
To work around this problem, remove this reparse point from the
library, and then run the backup wizard again. To back up
content for this reparse point, select the absolute path of this
location from the Windows Backup configuration user interface.
Note This error may also occur if Microsoft Forefront
Client Security reports a file as malware, and this file will be
included in backups by Windows Backup. In this case, use
Forefront Client Security to remove malware from your computer.
- Restore issues
Issue 3: You cannot locate the files in the File Restore
Wizard
If the reparse point is a mount point or a directory junction to
the root of another volume, you cannot use the browse
functionality in the File Restore Wizard to locate the files
under the reparse points.
To work around this problem, use the Search functionality in the
File Restore Wizard to locate the files.
Issue 4:
Error code 0x80070003
If the reparse point is a mount point or a junction point to the
root of another volume, you may encounter the following problems
when you try to restore the files under the reparse point:
> You cannot restore to the original location if the reparse
point directory is deleted.
> To work around this problem, re-create the reparse point
directory.
You cannot restore to alternative location if you click to
select the Restore the
files to their original subfolders check box in the File
Restore Wizard.
> To work around this problem, click to clear the
Restore the files to
their original subfolders check box when you run the File
Restore Wizard.
