"Error 80048820 and extended error 80048439: You can't sign in to Windows Live Messenger."

When you try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger, you receive a message that states that the Messenger service was unable to sign you in to the Microsoft .NET Messenger Service. This problems may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

• The .NET Messenger Service is experiencing service or maintenance issues.
• A firewall is blocking connectivity of Messenger to the Internet.
• The proxy settings are incorrect.
• A router is blocking Messenger from accessing the Internet.

How to fix this 80048820 and 80048439 msn error ?

To troubleshoot the problem, try these steps in the following:

1. Verify that Windows Internet Explorer is not set to Work Offline.
   
   a. Open Internet Explorer.
   
   b. On the File menu, clear the Work Offline option.
   
   c. Verify that you can connect to the Internet.
    
2. Verify that the .NET Messenger Service is running.
   
   To view the current status of the .NET Messenger Service, visit the .NET Messenger Service status website.

   This is only a temporary workaround. You may have to reinstall the firewall software again. Contact the manufacturer of your firewall software for more information.
    
4. Clear the proxy settings in Messenger to establish a direct connection to the Messenger service.
   
   If you can't connect to the Internet, confirm that your proxy settings in Internet Explorer are correct. You may have to contact your ISP or network administrator to find out the correct settings. To clear your proxy settings in Internet Explorer:
   
   1> Start Internet Explorer.
   
   2> On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
   
   3> On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
   
   4> Clear the Automatically detect settings check box.
   
   5> Click OK two times.
    
5. If you’re using a router, disconnect (bypass) the router so that you connect directly to the Internet, and then try to sign in to Messenger again.
