What make the registry defrag error?

You use Winternals Defrag Manager 4.0 to defrag paging files or registry hives. The computer restarts after the defrag is finished. After the computer restarts, you receive one of the following error messages:

For paging files:"Pagefile.sys is already in one fragment."

For registry hives: "Unable to open the system drive for registry defrag, path not found. "


How to fix?

Warning Serious problems might happen if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve the problem, modify the Session Manager registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute
    
3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    
4. In Value data box, delete all the lines except the following line:
   autocheck autochk * pgdfgsvc C 1 -o
