Good Habits to Avoid Windows BSOD

I have written the laptop black screen and computer freezes randomly help pages on the last 2 articles. You can first to read them and check for help. The BSOD is displayed error message in the context of a blue screen and you have to choose the cold-boot(Press the power button to turn on the computer directly) to start the computer. You can read more about BSOD on wiki. We will give you several methods to reduce the chance of receiving the blue screen of death problems. Keep the good habits following:

  • 1. Close your pc properly: Don't shut down the computer before closing all applications, it may cause system files damaged or lost that leads to blue screen. I remembered that my laptop screen went blue at shutdown on one day before, because I hadn't closed the game which I was playing. Fortunately, my pc was ok after the next booted.

  • 2. Scan and kill virus regularly: Scanning the E-mail or downloaded files with antivirus software before opening them.

  • 3. Uninstall programs properly: You should uninstall programs with their own uninstall program or "Control Panel" > "Programs and Features" or "Add and Remove" > uninstall. Do not manually delete the program folders, it is wrong.

  • 4. Optimize the registry regularly: If you are familiar with Windows registry, you can optimize it by yourself, but for most of the pc users, you'd better optimize the registry with a registry cleaner tool. And you can read our How to Clean the Bloated Registry page for help. If the registry is too large that not only slows down the computer speed but also affects the stability of the system.

  • 5. Close the programs immediately which are not being used: That can save system resources. You can open it again if you need it.

  • 6. Reduce the auto-start applications: If the auto-start applications are not important, you'd better disable them on windows startup. If the auto start up programs are too many that affects system boot speed and takes up the system resources.

  • 7. Simplify the desktop and start menu: Try your best to reduce the desktop shortcut icons and Start menu items is another important way to save system resources. 1) Delete the desktop shortcut icons which are useless; You can move the same type of programs into a same folder(You can create a folder and name it on the desktop). 2) If the desktop shortcut icons have the duplicate items with Start menu, you can retain one depending on your personal habits and delete the other one.

  • 8. Clean out the dust of your computer regularly: No matter you use the desktop computer or laptop, you need to clean out the dust at least once a year. Too much dust will make the circuit boards poor contact and lead to BSOD, screen messed up ...

If you can follow the above good habits to care for your computer, you will greatly reduce the chance of getting the blue screen of death error. Remember that: It is necessary to adhere to these good habits of using your computer :)
