  • How to fix?

    The registry error Stop: 0x00000051 occurs if the user profile is corrupt. However, to confirm what is causing this issue. Try the following steps.

    Start the computer in Safe Mode and then try to shut down the computer. To do this, follow these steps.

    1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.

    2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

    3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.

    Run sfc scan in Safe Mode. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type cmd, right click on cmd in the list and then click “Run as administrator”.
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    2. At the prompt, type the following command and hit enter.
    sfc /scannow

    Start the computer in the normal mode and see if the stop error occurs.

    NOTE: If you are able to use the computer without any error message, then it confirms that the non Microsoft program is causing this issue.

    If you would like to know what is causing the issue, then first try disabling the security software and then try to use the computer. If you are able to shutdown the computer, then it confirms that the security software interruption was talking place when tried to use the computer. However, if the issue still persists, then try disabling all the non Microsoft services running on the computer and try to shutdown the computer.

    Try starting the computer in clean boot mode i.e. disabling all the non Microsoft services running on the computer and check if the issue occurs. To do this, follow these steps:

    Step 1: Perform a Clean Boot: 929135

    NOTE: If the issue doesn’t occur in clean boot, then it confirms that one of the non Microsoft programs is causing this issue.

    To find out which program is causing this issue, follow the steps from “Step 2: Enable half of the services” to “Step 6: Resolve the problem” to find the culprit i.e. the non Microsoft program that is causing the issue: 929135

    Once you find the program that’s causing the issue, uninstall the software.

    If you confirm that the issue not caused by any of the programs, then create a new user account and then check if the issue occurs.

    Steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

    2. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.

    3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
