Spilled Water on My Keyboard and Doesn't Work

I always put the water cup on the computer desk when I play my laptop. Oh, this is a bad habit for the pc users, please do not like me! Some days before I was working with my notebook, I did concentrate on my work but my body needed some water, when I used my right hand to take the water cup. My God! My laptop keyboard was poured water with my careless(right hand knocked over the cup). I unplugged the adapter and battery immediately and turned the notebook upside down to make the water out. Luckily, my pc could boot and run properly the next day. If U have the same mistake, please try the following to resolve:

  • For Desktop Computers

After the water on keyboard, turn off the computer and dry it. When you start your PC and find that the keyboard doesn't work: the indicator light does not work; Pressing button does not respond.

Maybe the water cause the internal circuit problems, try following steps:

    1. Open the keyboard and wipe the electric circuits carefully with the absorbent cotton, then install it and connect to the computer, test it. If the issue occurs again, try next step.

    2. Maybe the keyboard circuit board does not work due to humidity. Open the keyboard again and separately wipe the layers of the circuit board, then dry it under the Sun for several hours and test it, maybe the issue will disappear. If not, please buy a new one and it is not too expensive.

  • For Laptop

If you have spilled water on laptop keyboard, you need to be very careful. Try following steps:

    1. Disconnect the power immediately: Don't think too much, unplug the adapter and take out battery as soon as possible. Remember: Don't press the "Shut Down" button and directly cutting off the power, because we don't have more time to do that. The time interval of shutdown is 4 seconds by the default. When the computer power is off, it doesn't matter even if you spill the water on the keyboard.

    2. Make the water out: Turn over the notebook and tap the back gently so that water flows out. Note: Do not hit the keyboard, if you do that, the water will go into the interior of the keyboard and damage it.

    3. Dry it out: If there is a little water on your laptop, leave it to dry for about 2 days in a cool and well ventilated place. When the water has evaporated, you can only start and test your pc with adapter(If there are some problems that you can cut off the power immediately). Maybe your computer will be ok again; If there is a lot of water on your laptop, you can repair your laptop by after-sale service. If you want to do it by yourself, you need to be very careful. Because it is very easy to make mistake when you remove the keyboard, you can click here to search how to "remove laptop keyboard" video on youtube.com. When you have removed the keyboard, check the motherboard to find that is there some water or watermark, and absorb water with absorbent cotton. Choose low profile with a hair dryer to blow the motherboard with the direction from the center to the outside. Note: keep a certain distance between hair dryer and motherboard(temperature is too high and it maybe burn out the motherboard). If you still see the watermark after you dry the motherboard and keyboard out, you can use the absorbent cotton with a little alcohol to clean.

    4. Test your laptop: If you are sure you have cleaned and dried it out, you can assemble your pc and testing. Turn on your laptop power and check if the indicator light has response. Note: At the same time, please smell your laptop with your nose that is there something different taste? If yes, you should disconnect the power immediately. If you can boot your laptop and enter the operating system, there should be no problem of your notebook. Congratulations:)

    5. Repair by professional: If your laptop still doesn't work, please don't do more, because you will make more mistakes. You should repair your pc from the after-sales service or the professional maintenance staff.

You should disconnect the power as soon as possible when you spilled water or other liquid on computer keyboard. Another important thing: Don't put any liquid cup next to your computer! It is a bad habit. If you do this before, you will not receive this issue :)
