  • When you try to boot up Windows Vista system, you may get a black screen appears before the login screen.

  • How to fix?

It could very well be that something in your startup is locking up Vista when it’s trying to boot. Here’s something you could try. Try booting Vista into safe mode, then perform a clean boot.

Follow the steps below to place your computer in “clean boot” once you’re in Safe Mode.

    1. Click the Start orb on your Desktop

    2. Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    1. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

    2. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

    3. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.

    4. Click OK.

When you are prompted, click Restart in normal mode this time. Did it hang?

If this does resolve the issue, click here to see on “Clean boot” and the section “How to determine what is causing the problem” to determine which program or service maybe causing the issue.

How to set your computer back, to boot normal:

    1.  Click the Start orb on your Desktop
